Initially, our clients wanted help renovating the kitchen in the main house of a century-old lakeside summer compound. Together, we proceeded to look at the entire house, then the entire compound.

Eventually, we relocated and adapted the old kitchen as a free-standing ceramics studio. We then created a new entry and mud room, bathroom, laundry, office, and kitchen, with a guest room tucked above. Finally, we reworked the front porch and extended its broad stairs to the lawn, splaying them for both ease of use and grace.

Removing a bit of the primitive and adding elements of function and comfort, we have reinforced the spirit of the original compound.
